Wines we're loving right now:
Hayman Hill Interlude: a mysterious blend of
white varietals, blanaced perfumed, captivating.
Chateau La Bouree Cotes de Castillon: Bordeaux
as it should be. Gone are the dry, lean, barren Bordeaux for the
everyday table. This wine is
elegant and a true pleasure.
Tasting

Sparkling wine. Bling in a bottle. Glamour in
your glass. Domaine du Pas Saint Martin Saumur. from the Loire
Valley. Slightly off dry.
Thierry Triolet Grand Reserve Brut Champagne.
Dry full bodied Champagne from a tiny wine grower/maker. No more
corporate juice, Farmer-fizz is where its at.
Mediterranean Whites are great fall wines.
Rich and aromatic on the nose, with ripe orchard fruits balanced
by fresh acidity on the palate, Mediterranean white wines stand
up to the sweetness and richness of squashes, game birds, herbed
roasts, braises, blue cheeses, nuts. They are individual wines
of particular interest as blends indigenous, often little-known
grapes.
From Sicily
Tasca d'Almerita Regaleali Bianco IGT
A blend of three Sicilian grapes-- Inzolia, Cataratto and Grecanico
From the appellation Pic St Loup in the Languedoc
L'Hortus Bergerie Blanc, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay,
Viognier and Rousanne.
The softer, gentler side of Chianti
Most of us are familiar with the "Chianti Classico"
DOCG, but in fact there are 7 sub zones of Chianti besides Classico.
Each with their own character, usually not as bold as Classico,
but many are quite refined, imminently drinkable.
Today we will try two, one from "Chianti Rufina" produced
by Cedro and one from "Chianti Colli Senesi" from Castello
Farnatella.
Foppiano Vineyards
Lot 96, Bin 001
Sonoma County
Called Lot 96 to reflect the winery's original roots, dating back
to 1896. Foppiano is an historical California winery, still family
owned today. Lot 96 is newly released this fall as a wine of excellent
value, meant to be consumed in the now. It is a blend of 40% Alexander
Valley Sangiovese, 40% Dry Creek Zinfandel and 20% Russian River
Estate Petite Sirah. It is soft and approachable with black fruits
and spice from the Zinfandel, red berries and violet from the
Sangiovese, with the Petite Sirah bringing structure to the wine.
